Green Action
The DIY Street Fair vows to be a future-friendly event. We are proud to say that, on the first night of the 2009 event with over 3,500 patrons in attendance, the fair produced ONE single bag of trash. The rest was reused or recycled with the help Sierra Club and YOU.
As part of our efforts to reduce waste wherever possible, there is no bottled water available for purchase at the fair. Instead, free water stations will be available where patrons may fill either their own container or a recyclable cup that will be available for purchase on site (for cheap).
In addition, some of our vendors will be showcasing eco-friendly products and services, and most food and drinks available for purchase are from local, independent restaurants and brewers who support local food growers and producers, which helps reduce pollution associated with long-distance distribution.
What more can you do? Bring a tote in which to take home your new purchases. Save some fuel and walk or bike to the event. Or ride The Night Move, which is not only convenient, it runs on biodiesel and is the official transportation sponsor of the DIY Street Fair. Use the recycling bins provided at locations throughout the fair. A few small steps toward more sustainable living.
