DIYSF vows to be a future-friendly event. We are proud to say that, on the first night of the 2008 event with over 3,500 patrons in attendance, the event produced only ONE single bag of trash! The rest was reused or recycled with the help of the Sierra Club, the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission, SOCRRA and YOU!

As part of our efforts to reduce waste wherever possible, there is no bottled water for purchase at the event. Instead, FREE chilled water stations will be available where patrons may fill either their own container or use a recyclable cup supplied at the event.

In addition, some of our vendors will be showcasing eco-friendly products and services, and most food and drinks available for purchase are from local, independent restaurants and brewers who support local food growers and producers, which helps reduce pollution associated with long-distance distribution.

What more can you do? Bring a tote in which to take home your new DIY purchases. Save some fuel and walk or bike to the event. Reuse your souvenir beer cup…over…and over again. And last but certainly not least, before you throw anything away at the event please check to see if it can be recycled. Recycling containers will be located throughout the event, often right next to a trash can and at every exit – so if it is cardboard, glass, metal, aluminum or plastic please help us keep it out of the landfills and recycle it.
